The Next Morning…

April sauntered out of the house as I got out to open the door for her. She smiled at me, and my heart did some weird ass palpitation I didn’t like. I wanted whatever April and I had going on to work, so this trip would be one of getting to know each other a little more. She had no idea I was flying her out to Atlanta. For some reason, I kind of figured she would protest, so I didn’t want to tip her off by letting her know we were going to another state. Whatever she needed, I made sure my sister Sheena accommodated her for it.

“Good morning, beautiful.”

“Good morning. This event must be big if we’re leaving in the wee hours of the morning,” she stated, stepping into me and wrapping her arms around my neck, hugging me. My nose went to her neck and arms wrapped around her waist.

“It is. Did you make sure you unplugged everything, and the lights are out?”

“No, why?”

“Because we’ll be gone for a while. No sense in running your light bill up.”

“Oh, my best friend Tina and I live here. She knows what to do while I’m gone.”

“A’ight cool. You look nice.”

“Thank you, babe.” She kissed my cheek and slid inside of my Mercedes AMG GLC. Walking around to the driver’s seat, I got inside, then pulled from the curb.

“This car is so damn dope. I would take this in red with butter leather seats, please!” she said, smiling. I smiled back at her.

“Is this your dream car?”

“It wasn’t before, but it is now.” She laughed.

“What was it before?”

“An Audi Q4 e-tron. I saw one in a magazine and knew that would be the first car I purchased when I get my coins right.”

“What other dreams do you have?”

“Hmm, I wanted to be a nurse, but I’m unsure about that now.”

“Why?”

“I want to own my own business. Like maybe a lingerie store or toy store. My sister offered me fifty percent of her business, but I need one hundred percent. I can’t see myself accepting anything less.”

I nodded. “Understandable, but you have to start somewhere. Even the greatest inventors had to start from the bottom. You should reconsider her offer.”

She twisted her body to look at me and feigned shock.

“Look at you trying to school me. I see you, baby.” We both laughed. “But I guess you’re right. Nordstrom’s is not a career choice, but I’ll figure it out.”

“Time waits for no one, so make sure you decide ASAP. If you want, I could help you.”

“You’re so sweet. What’s the event, anyway? Am I dressed appropriately?” My eyes scanned her attire briefly. The black leather skin-tight pants, heel booties, black camisole, and leather skater jacket looked good enough to attend the event, but it wouldn’t be until tomorrow.

“You’re definitely giving sexy in that attire. And it’s an auto show, biggest one to date.”

“So sexy is okay for this event?” She laughed.

“It is for today.” I smiled and winked at her as I headed on the expressway to the airport.
